Do you require an in person meeting?
Short answer is no. We offer full transparency in all of our pricing and collections for service offered. We do not try to get you in studio to size you up and up sell you on services you may not want or need.
While on occasion we meet clients that prefer to see who they are dealing with before coming to a final decision, we normally do 90% of our booking online or over the phone.
We have a 5 star (unsolicited) rating on google and go above and beyond for our clients, however truly the best way to decide if we are right to document your special day is to do a couples session with us. Its great practice for the weddig and gives us a chance to build a rapport.
How many hours do we need?
Typically if you are having the ceremony and reception at the same venue or close by you will need 6-7 hours.
If you want to add couples photo session at say Central Park, Dumbo or some other nearby attraction, you will need 8-9 hours.
If you want to cover bride and groom prep at the house, hotel or venue, couples photos outside of venue at a famous location, ceremony and reception you will usually need 8-12 hours depending on travel distances between each location.
Our maximum for the day is 14 hours, altho we rarely need more than 12.
What is a pre shoot consultation?
All of our collections come with a pre-shoot consultation where we will help you with all logistics, from picking the best portrait locations, time management as well as some major do’s and don’ts. While you may have attended a few weddings and perhaps even helped a friend plan one, most people have no idea what it is like to have one themselves. The stress of the day can get overwhelming and some couples just want the day over with by the time reception comes. Thats where we come in to help manage and prepare you for what is to come and let you know when its time for an espresso, when its time for shots and keep you focused on what it is all about, a celebration of your love with your closest friends and family.
How do albums work?
There are usually 2 types of albums, a luxury album and a photo album. The difference is cover quality, page thickness and paper finish. Typically an album will have 30 inserts (60 pages) and will consist of about 60-90 photos. In full transparency our price for album design is double the cost of the album, the printers we use are for photographers only and are usually better quality than you would have access to as a consumer. However we offer you high resolution images with any service, so if you feel you are creative enough to make your own album and want to save some money that is an option for you as well.
What is your shooting style?
We document the day 3 ways, photojournalism, classic portraiture and editorial.
During most of the day we are trying to be as un-intrusive as possible, a fly on the wall documenting every aspect of the day as it is.
During couples photos we take an editorial approach, with lots of direction for our couples, we look for depth and composition in every shot.
During family and bridal party photos we do classic portraiture with classic and contemporary arrangements.
In terms of editing, while every photographer seems to be stuck on a “1970’s fade, muted, vintage esthetic. Thats not really our thing, at properpix we like rich vibrant colors, sharpness and bold contrast.
How many images can we expect to get?
While every event is different and photo amount vary by number of guests and amount of details, industry standard is 40-60 edited images per hour, however we tend to average around 100 edited images per hour.
What is a 3rd crew person?
Every person on our crew is able to shot both photo and video and switch back and forth as needed. For example, sometimes our clients feel they need a 2nd photographer for bride and groom prep as they are getting ready at different locations, 2 videographers during ceremony and 2 photographers during dancing. Thats where having someone capable of doing both becomes very useful. ”
